Reader’s Question:

I live in San Francisco California and my vehicle was parked on the street outside my house and it was hit by somebody. Should I make a claim under my uninsured motorist coverage?

Renzo

San Francisco, CA

I believe this would be considered a comprehensive coverage claim in San Francisco. Comprehensive physical damage covers your car, and sometimes other cars you may be driving for losses resulting from incidents other than collision. For instance, comprehensive insurance covers damage to your vehicle if it is stolen; or damaged by fire, flood or animals or parked. It is important that you report this loss to your car insurance provider. A licensed claims adjuster will be able to determine how this loss will be covered.

I suggest that you speak or contact your car insurance company to get more information on your comprehensive coverage policy.

Reader’s Question:

If you are in an accident and no one calls the law enforcement officer and you just exchange information with the other driver what happens if they later come back and say they have damage in their car that they did not? I have my car insurance in San Francisco California.

Dan

San Francisco, CA

All accidents or incidents should be reported to your insurance providers even if the law enforcement officer are not called. In this way, they have a record of your side of what happened. This also protects you from accidents such as the one you stated wherein the information later changes.

You should contact your insurance carrier in San Francisco CA, if you haven’t already, and explain to your insurance agent what happened. At this point, it will be up to a claims adjuster to know whether or not a claim can be made against your car insurance policy. The same applies for the other driver.

Car Insurance Cost San Francisco CA

Reader’s Question:

I live in San Francisco, California and I am wondering why does your auto insurance rise if you have a two-door car? Does it cost more to insure a 2 door car?

Sandy

San Francisco, CA

2- door car do not always make your car insurance to rise in San Francisco since individual insurance carriers have their own rating systems, but many two door vehicles are deemed to be sports cars and therefore may cost a little more to insure.

A sports car will be rated higher by most insurance carrier in California than a family sedan. This is because of the fact that sports cars parts normally cost more to repair and they are statistically in more accidents at higher speeds, so it appear to insurance companies as more of a risk.

The classification of a vehicle as a sports vehicle, family vehicle, etc will depend upon the definitions set forth by an insurance carrier. Each insurance carrier has its own car classification system that is typically based upon ISO (Insurance Services Office) VIN system or other insurer proprietary ranking systems.
