Q: What’s the difference between regular car insurance and San Francisco SR-22 insurance?

A: Regular car insurance and San Francisco SR-22 insurance are very similar in a lot of ways. Both are mandatory, and both provide whatever coverage the buyer once so long as it heeds to the state minimum. However, there are also differences.

For one thing, if you have San Francisco SR-22 insurance then your car insurance company has to file an SR-22 form with the California department of motor vehicles every month that you have insurance with them. SR-22 insurance is more expensive than regular insurance, and if you fail to pay for it you could lose your license.
